♥ Old West 40th Birthday Card ♥

Hi everyone!

My brother is turning the big 4-0 on Sunday and I wanted to make him a special card to help soften the blow LOL!  How fun!

Usually when I am making a card or project for someone I really think about what they are in to and/or what they like.....and this is where I get my inspiration.  My brother and his family are really into horses and my Old West cartridge had just what I was looking for to create a special horse that gave me the rustic feel I was aiming for.  I usually go for the cutesy look with my card projects but wanted a more realistic detail to this card.  I think the jute ribbon pulls the entire card together.

Details:
  • Card - 8 1/2" x 11" - brown kraft folded in half
  • Main layer - pattern paper 3" x 8 1/2"
  • Bottom strip has a hale bale pattern - 1" x 8 1/2"
  • Loopy punch by Martha Stewart for strip of brown with white gel pen stitching lines.

Horse:
  • Old West Cricut cartridge
  • Horse - 4" brown
  • Horse - hair, tail and bridle 4" on layer key - black
  • Cuttlebug Distressed Stripes for mane and tail
  • Eye - black pearl sticker dot
  • white gel pen for accent doodling

Happy Birthday:
  • Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge
  • 2 1/2" - red shadow black-out
  • 2 1/2" - dark brown regular
  • star brad to accent "dot" of "i" in birthday

To finish:
  • Pop Dots for demension of horse and Happy Birthday
  • Jute ribbon wrapped around the inside of the card several times and tied into a bow; secure with glue dot.

Inside of card:
  • 4 0 - cut 2" - Old West cartridge (regular and black shadow)
  • strip of pattern paper on inside
  • white stitched lines are with white gel pen

I appreciate your comments and feedback.

  3. Tracy, I love the card! And you started me thinking about making cards more personal to the person to whom you're sending it..... One question: do you have a favorite brand of gel pens? I've had such bad luck--leaking, not writing smoothly, drying up too soon. I'm really frustrated! m2
